On Feb. 12 at 2 PM, the Balzekas Museum presents  “Second Hand” (2019), an award-winning documentary on migrants caught up in UK’s used clothing trade by filmmaker/director ArtÅ«ras Jevdokimovas, who will be on hand to introduce the film and for a Q&A afterwards.
“Second Hand” (2019), tells the tragicomic tale of how used clothing donated to UK charities ends up in markets and resale shops in Lithuania and exposes the gritty underside of Europe’s used-clothing trade and the lives of the people caught up in its far-reaching web.Â
Part documentary comedy, part detective story, “Second Hand” tells the story of four Lithuanian migrants–who come to the UK in search of opportunity but who fall prey to human traffickers and organized criminals. These ringleaders appear to care less for the people they exploit than for the used and discarded clothing they peddle. Despite the clash of cultures and tragicomic incidents, the four characters manage to maintain hope, humor, and dignity in a cruel and inhumane environment thanks to their own grit and to filmmaker/director ArtÅ«ras Jevdokimovas’s sensitive portrayal .
