WEEKLY VISIT TO THE MUSEUM
WEEK #7
Febuary 24, 2021
Vienybė Lietuvnikų Unity of Lithuanians

In Plymouth, Pennsylvania, Juozas Paukštis founded a Lithuanian press and published fifty Lithuanian books. He also produced a journal called Vienybė Lietuvnikų (Unity of Lithuanians), starting in 1886. In 1920 Vienybė Lietuvnikų was renamed Vienybė. This issue is from December, 1896. Vienybė Lietuvnikų was a journal covering literature, science, and politics.
The paper was published weekly and claims a circulation of 300,000. An annual subscription cost was $2 to US subscribers and $3 to those “užmarė” or overseas. Advertisements featuring taverns suggest the paper was read from Brooklyn, N.Y. to the mining towns of Pennsylvania.
