Beautifully decorated letters written by Lithuanian immigrants for their loved ones in Lithuania
Many early Lithuanian immigrants could not read or write. Yet they wanted to communicate with the loved ones they left behind in Lithuania. To fill this need, some enterprising individuals prepared various decorated letters for them to send. The pre-printed letters, some addressed to “Mielas Broleli” or “Miela Sesute” (Dear Brother or Dear Sister) the letters informed the recipient about how the émigré was doing and expressed their wishes on a page adorned with flowers, glitter, or patriotic images.
