Lithuanian Americans call for the newly proclaimed Lithuanian nation’s Freedom

On March 13, 1918 the third National Congress of Lithuanian-Americans met in Brooklyn, New York. Meeting less than a month after independence from  Russia was proclaimed in Lithuania, these 1,200 delegates, representing various organizations throughout the U.S., reiterated their approval of the independence declaration and in the “name of 700,000 American Lithuanians” called for the government of the United States to declare its recognition of Lithuania’s independence.
