Join us on Saturday, March 16 from 1:00 to 3:30 p.m. at the Balzekas Museum of Lithuanian Culture, 6500 S. Pulaski Rd., Chicago, for our popular annual Easter Egg decorating workshop using the traditional Lithuanian surface etching technique. All instruction is in English.

WHAT TO BRING: Each participant is asked to bring 6 hardboiled and dyed eggs to the workshop. Preregistered participants will receive information on how to dye eggs using natural onion skin with their registration confirmation email. But eggs colored with commercially available dyes are also accpetable. Etching tools will be provided.

Participants will receive additional patterns and designs by the late Ursula Astras, the folk-artist who taught the workshops at the Museum for many years and whose son, Don, and his wife, Kathy, now instruct the class. [Mrs. Astras’s detailed egg designs appear in the last photo below. Information about Mrs. Astras’s life and work can be found on LadyofWheat.com.]

Participants will be invited to tour the Museum’s collection of Easter eggs by Mrs. Astras as well as by the late Ramute Plioplys, a folk artist who pioneered innovative egg engraving methods for raw hollow eggs using dental tools.

Light refreshments will be provided. Free parking is available on Pulaski Rd. in front of the Museum; along 65th Street; and in the parking lot behind the Museum. Overflow parking is available on sidestreets in the surrounding neighborhood as well as across the street at the Republic Bank Parking lot at 6501 S. Pulaski Rd.
