Fred Schwan has been collector since 1959. Since then he has had many different specialties including United States patterns and type coins. In the early 1970s he discovered military payment certificates and began specializing in military money. He has published two editions of the definitive book on military payment certificates.
He has written several books and hundreds of articles on his specialty and other subjects. Most of these articles featured new discoveries that are now included in this innovative book. In 1978 Schwan and Boling published their first collaborative effort, World War II Military Currency. That book became a standart reference that is only now being replaced by this work. Schwan served the 1st Calvary Division in Vietnam 1971 – 1972 and is a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2480. He holds Baccalaureate and master’s degrees from Bowling Green State University.
Joe Boling began collecting stamps in 1948 and moved to numismatics in 1964. He has collected most types of numismatic material, including United States type coins, world coins, and world paper money. For the past 20 years he has specialized in Japanese material. Colonel Boling served in Vietnam, Germany, and Japan in a 28 year Army career. He holds a baccalaureate degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a master’s degree from the University of Washington.
