Author Ruta Sepetys speaks to NPR’s Morning Edition’s Renee Montagne about seeking out “hidden chapters of history.” Sepetys’ new book, Salt to the Sea, about the doomed German ship Wilhelm Gustloff, which carried soldiers and thousands of Baltic civilians–many of them children–fleeing westward from the advancing Soviet army. The ship was sunk by 3 Soviet torpedoes on January, 1925.
