Ashes in the Snow theatrical run extended for Chicagoland audiences and now available to rent/download

January 15, 2019: The Balzekas Museum has learned that due to strong attendance, Ashes in the Snow–filmmaker Marius Markevičius’ film adaptation of Rūta Šepetys’ bestselling novel Between Shades of Gray–has been extended for another week at the AMC Lowes Woodridge 18 cinema in Woodridge, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago. The film was originally scheduled to screen over the weekend and to close after its final showing at 5:10PM on Wednesday, Jan. 16; however, record attendance at this location compelled AMC to extend the run. “The distributor reported that the Woodridge, Illinois, AMC theater had by far the highest weekend attendance numbers out of any of the 10 cities where “Ashes in the Snow” was playing!” Markevičius stated this afternoon. Both he and Šepetys sent emails thanking Chicago audiences for their support and urging others to see the film. Šepetys added, “And of course I am forever grateful to Marius for his incredible contribution to Lithuanian history and memory preservation.”

Good news: You can now rent/download Ashes in the Snow!

In addition to the theatrical screenings, the film is now available for rent/download on iTunes, Amazon, and VOD cable platforms, said Markevičius, who encourages people to “gift” the film through iTunes to Lithuanian and non-Lithuanian friends and acquaintances, in order “to help spread this important history and message to more people in the U.S.” The Balzekas Museum encourages its members and friends to view the film and show support for Markevičius, Šepetys, and all those associated with Ashes in the Snow for their ambitious effort to bring the history of Soviet deportations and their tragic consequences to light.
